To blog or not to blog?

October 4, 2009 at 11:00 pm (blogging)

That is so the question.

I started this blog & wrote my very first post in May of 2007.  I honestly didn’t read that many blogs or knew about too many that were out there before I started mine.  All my Sisterchicks had one and as described in that first post, I was beginning to miss out on things.  They weren’t emailing me their stories any more.  Instead they were blogging their stories to the rest of the world!  Not that the whole world was reading, but they could if they wanted to!!  So not being one to be left out, I started this.  I didn’t even think it through – obviously not because the address is silly ( and it doesn’t even match the name of my blog (It’s come to this) – which is silly also!  As I say in the side-bar “in order to keep up with my friends & family & have them keep up with me, it’s come to this – this blog” … see – silly!

I think the thing I’ve enjoyed most about starting my blog is that through it, I’ve read other blogs more.  I’ve learned practical things through money saving sites like MommySnacks, DealSeekingMom and Keeping the Kingdom First.  I’ve seen super wonderful crafty things & tips through sites like Living Locurto, Sweet Designs, Hostess with the Mostess & Cookie Monday.  Of course there’s dozens that I just enjoy keeping up with on a personal level – what’s going on in their lives, etc.  And then there’s a few that I’m just truly inspired by their personal stories & strength like The Williams Family Blog, The Macs & Bring The Rain.

But then there’s a few things like the very recent #Nestlefamily drama that became a firestorm through twitter, similar to the BlogHer drama over swag.  And yes, I know alot of that drama is more through Twitter, but still – the majority of those participating in the Twitter drama were bloggers  just acting down right mean & nasty!!  And I can’t forget about “B” or “April’s Mom” – which ended up to all just be a lie.

I’m debating about going to Blissdom 10 (must make that decision really fast!!)  with my Sisterchicks  – it could be a blog make or break.  I’ll either be sparked or I’ll be content otherwise.

I don’t really know where I’m going with this post and maybe that’s the whole point.  I don’t know where I want to go with my blog in general and depending on what I come across and read from someone else I’m either excited about blogging or absolutely disgusted.

Blog Hop 09

July 26, 2009 at 10:45 pm (blogging)

blog hop

The twitter & blog worlds are all a buzz about BlogHer ’09.  If you’re here, visiting my blog, then you probably weren’t there.  My guess is that those folks are sifting through their bags of swag, updating their return home travel statuses or tweeting about how they already miss their new best friends!!  And if you have no idea what BlogHer ’09 is even about, that’s ok.  It actually might work in my favor because other wise, you’d probably be reading recaps of anyone that went!!  So with all, I’m glad you’re here!  Thanks for hopping by!

Pensieve … magically delicious has put together this little hop to meet new bloggers.  So, I should technically be giving a little bio of myself so you’ll hopefully come back to visit again.  That’s so hard to do.  I hate bios.  Does anyone actually like writing them???  I think it’s because I honestly think I’m too boring for any of it – twitter, blogs, you name it!  But I just enjoy keeping up with it all … or at least trying my best to keep up with it all!!  I am a stay-at-home-mom to a 3 year old son, Evan and an 11 month old daughter Megan.  We’re heading into August & that’s an exciting time around our household.  We’ll be celebrating Evan’s 4th Birthday, Megan’s 1st Birthday & our 10 year anniversary!!  So, it’s exciting & also very expensive!!

I typically write about family, friends, the little ones, and anything else that might come up … hopefully it’s interesting but I can’t guarantee that!!  I participate in my IRL BFF’s Top Ten Tuesday Carnival each week, I have also just recently started linking up to the Diaper Diaries’ Things I Love Thursday.  So that leaves Monday, Wednesdays, & Fridays for just some good old happenings, Conversations with Three Year Olds, or some Quick Questions.  I just got back in town from a week at the beach, so rather than getting my brain & my fingers to type properly, it may be best if you just read here –   This is how it all got started.

I love finding new blogs, so leave me a comment so I’ll know where to find you!!

Thanks for hopping by!

Welcome to the party

March 20, 2009 at 10:19 am (blogging, Ultimate Blog Party) (, )

I love a good party – both throwing them & going to them!  But the Ultimate Blog Party is the best of both worlds …

          1.  You can go to multiple parties at once.

          2.  You don’t have to worry about what to wear.

          3.  You don’t have to worry about eating too much.

          4.  No worries about driving home too late.

          5.  And best of all – NO clean-up involved!!!

Now if this were a “real-life” party, you’d be making a trip to Atlanta & I’d be cleaning up toys from my 3 year old son – Evan, bottles from my 7 mth old daughter – Megan & dishes that rarely find their way to the dishwasher from my husband!

I’d probably greet you with a hug because I tend to hug my friends hello!

I’d of course offer you something really yummy to eat.  And then we’d chit-chat for a bit.  Since you can’t talk back right now, I guess I’ll do all the talking.  My name is Mandi & I live in Georgia with my husband & two young children.  I have the joy (sometimes more & sometimes less) of staying at home with them.  I typically blog about my children, my family, my sisterchicks & a little of this/a little of that.

I started this blog originally because of my girlfriends … aka … Sisterchicks.

All (but one of) my Sisterchicks had a blog and so in order to know what was going on in their lives & for them to know what was going on in my life “It Came To This“.

I know you’ve got a lot of party hopping to do, but before you leave we certainly don’t want to forget the door prizes!!!

I’m number 116 on the list.  You most definitely want to check it out!!  I wrote a longer post about it here.  And if you’re looking to shed some pounds, I think you’ll like it as much as I have!   After having my second child, I was ready to lose some weight!!  And I was really lucky to find a wonderful LIFE plan – Joy’s LIFE Diet:  Four Steps to Thin Forever!  It’s writen so well that it’s easy to follow & the results start quickly so you want to keep following it!!  Since January 4th, I’ve lost 20lbs … and going:).

So, be sure to leave a comment at the UBP Post for your chance to win #116 … and also, leave a comment here *just in case* I happen to have another copy to give away;).  Plus, I’d love to hear from you so I can visit your party too!

Happy Party Hopping!

Sneak peak giveaway

March 18, 2009 at 2:45 pm (blogging, giveaways, weight loss) (, )

I’m so excited!  I was starting a Draft for the Ultimate Blog Party earlier this week & wanted to have a giveaway.  Because let’s face it – the UBP is fun & a great way to meet bloggers, but like any other party it’s all about the door prizes!!!  I wanted to giveaway something that any woman would LOVE to win.  The first thing that came to mind was an easy way to lose 20 lbs!  And I have the secret – and no, I’m not going all OPRAH crazy on you!

I, like many other Americans, made the most popular resolution of all time – to lose weight!  And on January 4th I started a diet plan that’s really been working.  I’ve never dieted before.  Notice I didn’t say “I’ve never needed to diet before” … oh no, no, no.  Just that I’ve never chosen to actually do it.  I’m not good at giving up stuff – I think that’s why I never started drinking or smoking.  If I had to give up chocolate like someone trying to kick a smoking or drinking habit I would seriously go into withdrawals & shocks!!!  I also go back to my childhood.  There were SO many things that I gave up on.  Piano, Flute, Basketball, Cheerleading, Ballet, and the list goes on!  So to this day I can do a little bit of alot but not one thing can I do incredibly well – seriously!!  In some alot of ways, I’m scared to start something new because I absolutely HATE the thought of failure!!  Diets included.

So once I decided this was the year, I looked into a couple options.  And I got really lucky.  I picked the right book & the right plan.  It was well written, super easy to follow – no counting involved!!!  And had great recipes & common sense for a life plan.

And the result?  Eight weeks into it & I lost 20 lbs!!  Yipee!

So back to the giveaway & why I’m so excited.  I wish I could say that myself & my blog were so popular that this company contacted me … but that’s just not true.   So instead, I contacted the company & asked if they’d be interested in me giving a copy of the book away on their behalf.  And they said yes!

SO – come back on Friday for the UBP to find out what it is & for you chance to win!!

Top ten tuesday … things i should be doing instead of this post

March 10, 2009 at 7:28 am (blogging, Top Ten Tuesday)

Like most people (that’s what I keep telling myself anyways), I get lost online.  One page leads to another, which leads to another.   I think I need to start setting a timer & shut it down at the ding – but that would be boring!!  So here’s what I should be doing instead of doing what it is I’m doing right now:).

1.  Paying the bills (that’s why I sat down at the computer anyways!!).

2.  Laundry – boring!

3. Prepping dinner – it makes dinner time so much easier, but it’s so hard to spend “nap time” on something other than “me time”.

4. Filing papers – the “to be filed” stack is getting to be a little too much!

5.  Cleaning out – I’m in desperate need of space.  I’m hoping to have a garage sale later this month … the work that goes into that always sneaks up on me so I need to start now!

6.  Checking Facebook Statuses – ok, I guess this doesn’t fall under the category of “should be doing”, but what if I miss something!?!?

7.  Organizing Pictures – I need to sort my digital pics.  Too many of them are in a random folder … poor Megan’s totally getting the 2nd child syndrom.  I need to actually print a couple too so there’ll be a picture or two of her hanging around the house!!

8. Cleaning out the bathroom cabinets – this one has been driving me crazy for weeks, but not yet enough to actually do it!

9. Getting Evan ready for school – somedays this is so smooth & other days, boy oh boy!

10.  Waking Megan up – I’ve checked on her twice already because 8:30 is closer to her first nap rather than the time she actually wakes up!!

A new wordpress

December 9, 2008 at 8:36 pm (blogging) ()

I’ve been gone a few days, but long enough for wordpress to change the dashboard … I’m lost! Give me a minute to figure it out again & I’ll be back.

I know all five of you are holding your breath!!

Take five

November 30, 2008 at 10:36 pm (blogging)

Days that is.  I know I’m not a very consistent blogger, but I am a very, very, very, and very – way too very – consistent online user.  Whether it’s checking one of my too many email addresses, catching up on blogs from family, my best friends or people I’ve never met but enjoy keeping up with their lives, reading the latest in news or entertainment, finding good deals on eBay or super cute things on Etsy, paying the bills online, checking status updates on Facebook, or just flat out “surfin’ the net”, I am online WAY too much!!

Don’t think I’m crazy, I don’t think the internet is a bad thing – I don’t think all the previously mentioned are bad things, but I do think it’s a bad thing when I’m on here way too much.   I am truly addicted to the being online!!  So I’m going to take five – days that is, and see how much more enriched my life can be when I cut this tie for a week!!  And if it’s not any more enriched – then hopefully I’ll at least get a lot of stuff done!!  I used to take walks at night, watch TV with Pep, clean the house … I don’t even remember what I used to do at night, I just know that now I put the kids in bed & somehow end up sitting in front of the computer until I realize I’m up too late & I need to go to bed!!  Not to mention the fact that I feel Yahoo just calling me in to check messages on a hourly basis during the day!  Forget the fact that I don’t even get important emails anymore!!

I had been thinking about doing this for a while now, but now my chuch is currently on series called “Christmas Rebellion” – taking Christmas Back!  This series has had me thinking more about it, so I figured this is a great way to kick of the Christmas Season – spending more time with my family & for myself … and not Al Gore’s genious invention (haha!).

I’m actually very nervous about doing this.  My will power is not good – it never has been.  So that’s the primary reason for posting about it here.  I’m not looking for cheers & certainly not any jeers!!!  I just figured I’d stand a better chance of holding myself accountable if I told “someone” about it!

So, I’ve got all my bills paid, emails checked, facebook status has been updated – I feel like I’m going on vacation – you know all the “work” you do before you go?!?  I am giving myself one addendum to the rules … I have a few things currently listed on eBay, so I will check those once a day just to make sure there aren’t any questions I need to answer – I need to keep my Christmas shopping money up:).

SO – if you need me between now & Saturday, here’s a few ways you can get in touch with me:  1) Call, 2) Mail me a letter, 3) Send me a telegram or 4) Wait until next week.

Blush, blush

August 2, 2008 at 10:07 am (blogging, contest, giveaways) ()

I just reached my biggest blogging reward since starting this thing … I was one of WordPress’ growing blogs of the day!!!  I reached to number eight!!!  How fun is that??  Of course, I have a “feeling” a little thing called the Bloggy Giveaway had something to do with it!!  But it still sort of counts – right?!?

I guess reality will set back in next week when I’m back down to my six regular readers – thanks for keeping me in business you guys!!!

But either way, it’s been alot of fun!  So on to the good part – I read Staci’s post this morning & used the same random number generator to select the winner … and the winnner of my giveaway is Stephanie.  She has a super cute family & just by reading a little bit of her blog I can tell that soccer & instruments are in their household so those are two things our homes have in common!  Not that I’m good at either of those, though.   Congrats!

July 30, 2008 at 9:47 pm (blogging, giveaways) ()

So I’m a little late jumping into the carnival, but better late than never!!  Especially when it involves winning free stuff!!!  I’m choosing this as the giveaway for two reasons – one I really do love this product and two I don’t have my camera right now to upload any pictures of anything else!!

So without further waiting … I offer the Terra Cotta Body Buffer by Gilden Tree.  You know the little annoying bumps you may get from time to time on your arms or maybe your legs?  So if you don’t know what I’m talking about this may not be for you, but if you do then you should want this!!  It’s basically a terra cotta loofa to “help exfoliate & smoothe dry skin”.  It’s a gentle scrubber for the entire body & is simply used as you shower.

Terra Cotta Body Buffer&trade

So … just leave me a comment – you can tell me why you need it if you want or I don’t care just say hello … I know the real reason you’re here is because we’re all trying to hit as many of these giveaways as possible & increase our chances in winning something – anything!!!  But I promise, if you win this, you’ll actually use it & enjoy it!

It’s a Party!

March 8, 2008 at 9:37 am (2008, blogging, Ultimate Party Blog)

Or so that’s what I hear.  I love hosting parties, although I don’t think I’m that particularly good at it and since I’ve never hosted one online before there’s absolutely no telling how this one will come off!  My guess is probably not that good – afterall, I really don’t even know what this is all about but I was called out challenged to participate.

My name is Mandi.  I live in GA with my husband, two-year old son and little baby on the way.  The baby on the way actually still lives in me, but technically since I’m in GA then so is he (or she) … I’m thinking it’s boy #2, but that’s just a hunch.  I’ll know for sure soon enough.

After our son was born I tried to continue working but that got tough.  I enjoyed my job with a User Research Firm in ATL, but not enough to get over the ‘torn’ feeling I had.  So after a year I resigned.  I enjoyed being at home but in some wierd way still missed working.  After a year at home, I went back to work at the same company in a contract role of very part-time position that’s of course ended up more non-part time than part-time.  But with Spring Break & Summer Vacations approaching, that time is coming to end.  I’ll then be back full-time with the little guy & getting ready for the new one on the way.

I started this blog originally because my girlfriends (Sisterchicks – see below) all had a blog and our 20+ daily emails to each other went to zero because there was no need to email anymore – they had all already blogged about it.  So for me to keep up with my Sisterchicks “it came to this“.

I normally end up blogging about really important & incredibly interesting topics (read with complete sarcasim).  Unfortunately I rarely blog about anything important or interesting.  And since my camera’s been on the brink recently the posts are even more boring than needed.  Here’s a link or two to my favorite, better, interesting, better among the worst posts, just to give you a better idea of who I am:

Big News – well this is the one where I announced some Big News.

My Little … Celebrity – this one I just like because of the picture:)

The Great Eight – this one was just fun for me to write & ‘relive’.

The the Picture behind the Picture – this one just makes me smile.

So that’s scary – I just summed up the best of the worst into four posts … I’m sure you’ll be back for more!!!

So enough about me … let’s get to the prizes.  So since I have to narrow it down to three, my top picks would be …

1.  The Baby Candy T-Shirt from Baby Candy (because of the little one on the way)

2.  The $50 Gift Certificate from Paperlicious (because who wouldn’t want that)

3.  The Blog Makeover from Shauna (because my blog could certainly use a makeover).

But of course I’d also be really happy with these too:

4.  The $23 Cash from Kristin at An Ordinary Life (because it’s cash … what a better way to celebrate her Birthday)!

5.  Chocolate – (enough said) – by The Chocolistas.

So thanks for stopping by … happy party hopping!
