History in the making

I’m by no means a history buff.  In fact I specifiically recall hating all history classes – middle, high & college.  However I’m all about history in the making.  It’s hard to pull me away from a television set when something of great importance is being covered.  To actually live IN history is such a cool thing to me.

I love learning about historical things by events that are going on in the present.  I never knew or even thought of how or when the incoming President moves into the White House – but I just learned that all of it happens after a 10am ceremonial tea at the White House.  As soon as the incoming & outgoing Presidents leave the tea, the Staff kicks it into high gear!  They’ll move the outgoing President out & the incoming in.  An army plane will take all the outgoing President’s belongings to his new residence.  Did you know that the incoming President pays for his things to be moved?  That’s so funny to me!! Although most funds are taken from their campaign or something like that – not always personal, but still.

Did you know that while everyone “in Washington” will be at tomorrow’s Innaguration, one lone designate will be off in some undisclosed location … just in case!  I never thought of that before.  But I’m glad someone else has.  I mean honestly, every politician that has ever was or ever will be will be in DC tomorrow & EVERYONE knows that (the good, the bad & the ugly).  So just in case something were to happen this lone designate will be the President.  This year, Bush selected the Secretary of Defense & Obama agreed so oh Mr. Gates will be watching on TV … just like me!
