I figured I should go ahead and check this one off my To-Do List before Christmas Eve gets here – which is in just 4 days!!! Where has the time gone?!?
We did the usual split – lunch for my family and dinner at Pep’s. It makes for a rushed day, but I’m happy that we both can spend time with each of our families as opposed to deciding who we fly to this year. We definitely eat alot though that’s for sure! My family does the same thing every year with maybe one or two additions usually brought by Staci or my brother. In fact, I can go ahead and say that next year we’ll have a fried Turkey, Ham, the BEST broccoli casserole you’ve EVER had, the BEST sweet potato casserole (no marshmallows!!), & deviled eggs … plus those “additions”. But I LOVE everything about that dinner – in fact it’s so yummy that we’ll have the same thing for Christmas this year and next year, and the year after that, and the one after that …
Here’s a few pictures from the day:
Well, we had more fun than just that but WordPress is super duper slow tonight … I think I’ll just move onto Christmas!
We had a busy but fun weekend. Of course, a busy weekend probably sums up most this time of year – right? On Saturday we had some good friends over. They actually all started out as “Pep’s friends”, but now most of them are married & have kids so they’re my friends too! It was fun to all get together and also alot different with kids & babies around.
Sunday was jam packed fun … or mostly just jammed packed. We had our annual “Lovett Family Christmas Party”. It’s always the 2nd Sunday of December. This year apparently all the old ladies were tired of cooking so we went here:
Nothing says “Merry Christmas” like the Golden Corral! In case you’re wondering – and I know you’re not – we had some “Order of Business” at this year’s gathering and it was voted that starting next year we would get together on the 2nd Saturday of December – for lunch at Eddie & Laurann’s and it will be catered – everyone will just chip in of course. Don’t you love those kinds of family gatherings! You have “business” and it involves planning for next year … can’t we just enjoy the one we’re in!!!
After a good ole’ meal (if you like that kind of buffet thing), Pep & I went on a movie date to see 4 Christmases. I can sum that one up with “strange” and “disappointing”. We laughed, but each time we were also thinking what in this world?!?! Nine times out of 10, we’re pretty disappointed when it comes to those Romantic Comedy-types. Why can’t they just make a good movie??
After the movie we zipped off to Pep’s company Christmas Party. It was really nice – the food was good, company was pleasant, and the door prizes were – GREAT. Pep won this:
Isn’t that awesome!!!! Yes – it is! It’s a 42″ LCD/ HDTV Flat Screen – yipee!!
Then on our way home, we decided to put out a fire – literally!! Our neighborhood holds an annual fundraiser called “Night of Lights”. Votive candles line the streets – well, one of those fell over a few houses down from ours. Fortunately we & another neighbor pulled in when we did. Apparently the grass was pretty dry & it started spreading pretty fast. They got it out before it got to the pinestraw.
So after all the excitement I can’t wait to see what this weekend holds!
To a dear person & a great friend … I can’t believe it’s been 15 years since you’ve been gone. You gave us some great laughs, alot of fun and I miss you lots!!
Love You Matt!
The other day I asked Evan what we should get Megan for Christmas. He thought for just a moment & then with pure excitement he said, “I know … a bottle & a paci”! Now that’s a practical gift in the midst of a tough economy! However, practicality soon went out the window because he thought everyone else in the family would want a “big, green, mean d-i-n-o-s-a-u-r”! Funny that’s what he wants too!
I’ve never been the type to break rules on purpose. Ok – certainly I’ve done it from time to time over my 30-years but overall, I’ve been too scared on more occasions than not. More than anything though (ok – not really more than anything, but at this very moment anyways), is when parents break rules in front of their kids. Not even the “big rules” but just the little minor ones. I know I’m guilty from time to time too, but I’ve come to realize that preschool moms can be the worst!! If I had a dollar for every Mom that broke the traffic rules at pick-up in the afternooon … I’d have my Christmas shopping paid for!!
I remember so many occasions working in Children’s Church where parents would say “No sweetie, we can’t do that because Ms. Mandi will get on to you”. YUCK – how about “No. We can not do that because that’s the rule”. Why do I have to be the bad person!! Evan has a cousin that is two years older than him. And the family is constantly saying “sit down so Evan will”, “eat your vegetables so Evan will”, “stop running so Evan will”. AGH – why can’t it just be “Sit down, Eat your vegetables & Stop running” because those are the rules!! Why does Evan have to be the bad guy!! I know I’ll slip from time to time & do that with Evan & Megan, but I hope I catch myself. I have this fear of Evan hating Megan because she’s the reason he has to be good!!
Ok – enough of that soapbox!!!
I’ve come to realize why there’s four weeks between Thanksgiving & Christmas – so people like me will have time to post about one before the other comes. I’ve got to work on that!!
I’ve been gone a few days, but long enough for wordpress to change the dashboard … I’m lost! Give me a minute to figure it out again & I’ll be back.
I know all five of you are holding your breath!!
